The view above is looking north over Elton. Hawthorn Cottage stands just behind  the trees in the centre of this photograph. Situated between Matlock and Bakewell, Elton is a small upland village in the southern part of the Peak District and is about 900 feet above sea level. It is located close to the "White Peak Walking Way".  Farming is the predominant industry of the area and we still have a working farm adjacent to us.

The village has a Church, Chapel, School, Pub, Post Office, Café,  and Recreation Ground. The nearest shop/newsagent is in the neighbouring village of Winster just one mile away.

Elton’s quiet seclusion offers its own beautiful scenery, but it is also ideal as a base for visiting all the treasures of the Peak District, Derbyshire Dales and beyond. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are only a few minutes drive away.

Whether you are walking, cycling, touring or just taking a relaxing holiday in the Peak District it would be difficult to find a village more conveniently situated.
